Torrevieja is a large, busy coastal city, so the quality of a road ride depends on choosing the correct exit. Riders on the southern side connect towards Los Balcones, San Miguel de Salinas and the Vega Baja; those near La Mata have a more northerly route towards Guardamar, Santa Pola and Elche.
The salt lakes shape the landscape but also limit direct east–west connections. A route that looks close on the map may require a substantial loop around the protected lagoons.
