A familiar destination for Murcia Bike Hire
Alex and I took over Murcia Bike Hire in October 2018. Mar Menor Golf Resort soon became one of our most familiar delivery locations.
Many customers wanted a quality road bike without carrying one through an airport. Others had family holidays planned but still wanted several good rides during their stay.
Our delivery service gave them that freedom. We brought the bike to their apartment or villa and completed the final setup in person. We also supplied the essential equipment needed for everyday riding.
Those handovers created valuable conversations. We could discuss the rider’s experience, preferred distance and plans for the week. We could then explain which roads suited them best.
That personal contact has always mattered. A correctly prepared bike starts the hire well, while useful local advice helps the rider enjoy it.
Why the resort works as a cycling base
Mar Menor Golf Resort sits inland from Los Alcázares and the Mar Menor coastline. Its position gives riders several different directions to explore.
The surrounding campo roads suit steady endurance kilometres and relaxed tempo rides. Cyclists can also head towards the lagoon, local towns and longer inland loops.
The terrain near the resort is mostly flat or rolling. That makes it approachable for riders who do not want a climbing holiday. Stronger cyclists can still build longer and more demanding days.
Routes towards Rebate add a clear climbing objective. Longer rides can combine the Vega Baja, San Javier and Mar Menor roads. Riders can also create fast loops through the agricultural landscape west of the coast.
Wind often shapes the experience here. An easy outward leg can produce a testing return, so checking the forecast helps with route choice.

Bikes arriving ready for the first ride
The old Murcia Bike Hire service centred on convenience. Customers arrived at their accommodation and we delivered the bike directly to them.
At different points, our fleet included Cervélo and Focus carbon road bikes. Later, BMC became an important part of the service.
Every delivery involved more than unloading a bike. We checked the rider’s position, fitted the selected pedals and explained the equipment. A track pump and roadside essentials helped riders manage their week.
The equipment has evolved, but the principle remains the same. The customer should receive a clean, well-maintained bike that feels ready from the first kilometre.
OriMar Bikes now delivers BMC Teammachine SLR carbon road bikes to the resort. Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed shifting provides a consistent premium setup across the fleet.
Customers who became familiar faces
Repeat customers form an important part of our memories at Mar Menor Golf Resort.
Some riders returned each year and requested the same frame size. Others introduced friends or brought a larger group on their next visit.
We watched new customers gain confidence on unfamiliar roads. We also saw experienced cyclists use the area for focused winter kilometres and longer endurance days.

In 2022, Murcia Bike Hire promoted tailored cycling holidays at Mar Menor Golf Resort. The service could combine carbon road bikes with self-catering accommodation and airport transfers.
That offer reflected the business at the time. We worked across a large area and organised many parts of a customer’s trip.
OriMar Bikes now follows a more focused model. Customers arrange their own accommodation and travel. We concentrate on premium bikes, professional preparation, direct delivery and practical route support.
This clearer approach lets us protect the quality of every hire. It also keeps our role straightforward for customers and accommodation providers.
The service has changed, but the experience behind it remains valuable. Years of resort deliveries still influence how we prepare each booking today.
Four different ways to ride from the resort
There is no single correct week of cycling from Mar Menor Golf Resort. The best plan depends on fitness, wind and the rider’s goals.
A coastal and countryside loop can combine open roads with stretches near the Mar Menor. It suits riders who want a varied introduction to the area.
A longer coast-and-campo route works well as an endurance day. The exposed roads reward steady pacing and sensible nutrition.
A shorter loop through the citrus-growing countryside offers an easier option. Riders can keep the cadence high without committing to a major climbing day.
For more elevation, the roads towards Rebate provide a clear challenge. They also connect the resort with the wider Vega Baja landscape.
