What to Expect
Rolling out beneath Campoverde’s whispering pines, you ease into a gentle descent before the road points skyward toward the Rebate ridge. The gradient settles around five percent and each switchback opens a wider panorama of the Segura plain. Cresting the ridge releases you onto quick vineyard lanes that arrow north until the first flash of turquoise signals your arrival at Embalse de la Pedrera. For the next ten kilometres the tarmac hugs the reservoir’s indented shoreline; short ramps spike the heart rate while the water glitters below.
Leaving the lake, the route climbs steadily through almond groves toward Benejúzar and Algorfa, cresting a 200 m viewpoint before a sinuous descent delivers you to the agricultural plain east of San Miguel de Salinas. Here the landscape transforms once more as salt-bright lagoons appear on the horizon. A looping sweep around the edge of Laguna de La Mata offers mirror-calm reflections and, if you’re lucky, a flamingo fly-past. Turning inland, a gently rising falso-llano threads quiet citrus lanes back toward Campoverde; the final pine-canopied ramp lifts you home with just enough bite to earn that post-ride cortado.
