A good cycling week from La Manga Club should not repeat the same ride at different distances. The location offers several distinct route styles.
La Manga Club cycling routes can combine Mediterranean coastline, Sierra climbs, rolling farmland and steadier Mar Menor roads. Therefore, riders can balance endurance, climbing and recovery throughout their stay.
The first four routes below form part of the OriMar Bikes GPX collection. We provide these files to customers after they confirm their bike hire.
1. Coastal and Countryside Loop
111 km · 1,480 m climbing · Challenging · 4–6 hours
This is the biggest of our road cycling routes from La Manga Club. It combines the Calblanque coastline, Cartagena and two substantial climbs within one demanding day.
The route rewards riders with wide sea views, fast descents and changing scenery. In addition, the longer distance creates opportunities for café stops in coastal and fishing communities.
However, riders should not underestimate the accumulated climbing. The route suits experienced cyclists who can manage their effort across four to six hours.
Plan food, water and stopping points before departure. Also check the wind, because exposed coastal sections can significantly affect the return journey.
2. Coast and Campo Endurance Loop
35.6 km · 480 m climbing · Moderate · 1.5–2.5 hours
This shorter Portmán cycling route packs plenty of character into 35.6 kilometres. It includes the Cenizas climb and ridge-line views over the Mediterranean.
After the climbing, smoother campo roads lead back towards the Mar Menor. As a result, the route combines a focused climbing effort with a faster and more flowing return.
It works particularly well as a sharp pre-lunch ride. Alternatively, riders can use it early in their stay to understand the local gradients.
Although the distance looks modest, the climbing makes this more than a simple recovery loop.
3. Three Sierra Climb Challenge
35 km · approximately 630 m climbing · Moderate to challenging · 1.5–2.5 hours
The Three Sierra Climb Challenge delivers the highest climbing density of these shorter La Manga Club bike routes. It packs three distinct climbs into only 35 kilometres.
First, riders tackle balcony-road switchbacks above Cartagena. The route then crosses rolling farmland near Roche.
Finally, a ridge-line drag provides views back towards the Mar Menor. A smoother descent and return section then lead riders back to the resort.
This route suits confident cyclists who enjoy repeated climbing efforts. Therefore, good pacing matters from the first ascent.
The short distance also makes it useful for riders who want a demanding session without spending the entire day outside.
4. Rolling Ridge Views Loop
42.6 km · 502 m climbing · Moderate · 2–3 hours
The Rolling Ridge Views Loop sits between the shorter climbing sessions and the full-day coastal route. It includes two steady climbs without the intensity of the Three Sierra challenge.
Quiet lanes pass beneath the Sierra de la Fausilla before the route crosses Collado de Roche. From there, the return follows flowing ridge roads with views towards the Mar Menor.
This route develops a steady rhythm rather than relying on repeated sharp efforts. Consequently, it works well as a balanced middle ride within a longer cycling week.
Café options around Roche or Los Nietos can also turn the route into a more relaxed morning.
5. Easy Mar Menor recovery ride
After a harder climbing day, keep the next ride deliberately easy. A shorter route towards the Mar Menor can provide useful movement without adding unnecessary fatigue.
Unlike the four routes above, this is a flexible recovery format rather than one fixed GPX route. Riders can adjust the distance according to their legs, the wind and the available time.
For example, Los Nietos can provide a useful café destination. Alternatively, riders can keep the route closer to the resort and focus on gentle spinning.
This easier option also works for mixed groups. However, the group should agree on the pace before setting out.
Plan the whole cycling week
The best route depends on the weather, wind and previous days of riding. Therefore, plan the week as a sequence rather than choosing each ride in isolation.
A balanced schedule could begin with the Coast and Campo Loop. Riders could then complete the Coastal and Countryside Loop after an easier day.
The Three Sierra Challenge provides a focused climbing session. Meanwhile, the Rolling Ridge Views Loop offers a strong but more controlled alternative.
Finally, an easy Mar Menor ride can help the legs recover before another demanding day.
Booked OriMar Bikes customers can request GPX guidance suited to their experience and planned distances. We send available GPX files after confirming the bike hire.
